Soooo I have spent YEARS trying to find GREAT wine at grocery store prices as not many of us can afford $50+ wines as our “daily drivers”. So once every week or so I plan to share with you my grocery store wines that I recently had and give you my TRUE thoughts on them during my Weekly Wine Round-Up. I am a HUGE Amazon Primer so I have started to get deliveries but if you are not a big “Amazoner” I think most, if not all of these wines, can be found at your local grocery store. During these Weekly Wine Round-Up posts I hope to, also, bring you some discounts on wine and wine accessories. Let me know your thoughts on these wines and others that you have tried from grocery stores in the comment section below. CHEERS!!
And no I did not drink all of these in one week..but close enough ;-). Below are my thoughts on each but click the image for those that you want to read more on from the pros or want to purchase!
The Louis M Martini is not only my favorite of the bunch but definitely one of my favorites of all time for reds at this price point. I have seen this bad boy in the grocery store for years but never picked one up because for some reason it didn’t really appeal to me. But I am SOOO glad I finally did. I was SHOCKED by how big and bold this wine was (my fav!). I picked up lots of jammy fruit, spices, and caramelized oak. Amazon is having a 25% SALE on this wine woooohooooooo!
I originally picked up this Parducci pack of 4 whites because I have a soft spot for Mendocino County wines, however, its incredible flavors and prices will keep me coming back. I LOOOOVEEEE tasting numerous varietals from the same winery side by side to see if I can pick up any similarities and notice a trend in their wines (random, I know, but its fun I swear!). Here I got to taste their Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Gris and in all four I got very bright flavor and tons of fruits. If you ever come across these wines I would suggest them all but my favorite was the Viognier mainly because it takes A LOT for me to really enjoy a Viognier but this one did it.
I picked up the Miranda Lambert Crazy Ex- Girlfriend sweet white wine because duuuuhhh it’s Miranda Lambert! I am not a HUGE fan of very sweet wines but in an attempt to bring you guys some variety I tried this one (I plan to try all 4 of her wines). I tried it ice cold and it was certainly refreshing. I could only have one glass of this at a time as it certainly is sweet but for those of you who loooovvvvee sweet wines, check this one out! Amazon is having a SALE on this one, too!
When I pour a glass of Sauvignon Blanc it is solely because I want something REFRESHING and very cold and the 2015 Dark Horse did not disappoint. I’m not going to lie, I chose this bottle because it looked so pretty with its very clear, bright coloring. But its flavors were fantastic…lots of citrus!
I chose the 2012 Moniker Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, again, because it was from Mendocino County and because I had never heard of this winery before. This wine was very complex with many layers but both my girlfriend and I picked up tobacco, spices, and oak. Highly recommend (I already bought more as this wine was THAT good and I strongly believe in supporting smaller estates)!!
I chose the Chocolate Shop red because, well, with a name like that I just had to try it even though I am not a huge fan of sweet reds. As the name suggests it was very easy to pick up the sweet, chocolate flavors but, also, other signature red wine flavors…this wine was definitely a mixture of the two worlds. For those of you who love both wine and chocolate you gotta try this bad boy.
In my pursuit of cheaper red wines I bought the 2012 Downtown Abbey Countess of Grantham Cabernet Sauvignon. I LOVE this wine for being from sustainably farmed, estate- grown vineyards and because of its perfect mixture in flavors of spice and vanilla.
Lastly, is the Zombie Zin Again, I wanted to try something funky and this one caught my eye. I am a sucker for a good zin and pretty picky so I thought a $10 was going to be pretty nasty but I was wrong! For $10 you get so many flavors…cinnamon, berries, peppers, and cola. For me, cheap zins often taste watered down but this one was right on the money with its big flavors! Again, Amazon is having a SALE on this one wooohooooo!
Hope you enjoyed my Weekly Wine Round-up! Let me know if guys try any of these wines and what you thought of them. PLEASE share some suggestions on what I should try next week in the comment section below! I need some good grocery store wines.
