A couple weeks back I had the unbelievable opportunity to attend the Pala Casino Wine Festival. For being a CA girl I cannot believe I had not visited this outstanding hotel and casino before! My husband and I were not only blown away by the event itself but my the entire property. It was far more high end than we had ever expected…think Vegas but without the crowds! Anyways, prior to the event I was pampered at their GORGEOUS spa (something I will definitely be indulging in again) while my husband gambled a way. To say this place was our kind of heaven is an understatement. Now to the wine festival…
Let me start by saying I have never seen more gorgeous details at a wine festival before. Edison light bulbs hung from gorgeous wrought iron details, flowers were everywhere, and rustic wooden tables strewn with white tapestry above were spread across the lawn. Amongst it all were countless tents filled with some of the regions greatest wineries ready to pour for you as many times as you would like.
The Divine Food
Did I mention that intermingled was, also, tables of all different types of foods and restaurants for you to pair with your wine? These were not your average appetizers either. I’m talking a food lovers paradise! Sushi, pulled pork bites, stuffed crab, the largest table of charcuterie I have ever seen, desserts galore, seared ahi tuna, and so much more. To be honest when you hear that food is part of your ticket at a wine festival I assume I will leave hungry or need to eat beforehand. Nope, not the case here. We were STUFFED with phenomenal food.
Now to the wine….
If the food was above all expectations I don’t even know how to describe the wine. The selections were AMAZING. I have been to numerous wine festivals this summer and the wineries offered were mediocre at best. That was not the case at Pala. They had over 50 wineries pouring, most of whom brought numerous varietals, from all over the world. Most were from CA wine regions but for the international wine lovers there were certainly numerous options.
Am I the only wine nerd out there who gets SO excited to try new wines? At this wine festival there were countless wineries that I had heard over before that I had been dying to try!! I was like a kid in a candy story seeing so many of them knowing I was going to get to try them to my hearts content that night.
A new find for us was this Tenshan. Created by the infamous makers of Prisoner Red Blend this Tenshan was just as delicious but a fraction of the cost. Thank you Pala Casino for the introduction to a new fav!
My favorite of the night? Probably the Trefethen Merlot. This Napa girl LOVES anything coming out of the Oak Knoll district. We may have come back to this tent a time or two for a refill hehe.
The Wine Cave
Yes, you read that right. The wine cave! Who knew a casino would have a wine cave, especially one this gorgeous?! We ended our night sitting in the cave, eating the best desserts, listening to a live band, and sipping on wine. I could not have asked for a more perfect end to the evening. I cannot wait to visit this property again and I will FOR SURE be at next years wine event.
Thank you Pala Casino for a beautiful and perfect night. CHEERS!!
