So I recently became a founding member of The California Fruit Wine Company. What does this mean? I get a monthly shipment of their wine (just like any other wine club). But why is this company different from others? This company has one HUGE difference from other wineries…their wine is made from fruits other than grapes! Say whaaat?! Yep, its true! I recently got my first shipment and tried my very first wines made from something other than grapes. Here are my thoughts…
Wine Tasting- The California Fruit Wine Company
Because this was a new experience for me I wanted others to taste the wines with me in order to get numerous opinions. My very willing participants, my mom and sister, helped me out with this one and these reviews are the common consensus of us three.
- Pomegranate- The label on this one advertised tart and boy was it right! If you like tart this bad boy might be right up your alley. I think this one would make a great mixer for a cocktail, perhaps with vodka or gin?. With my shipment they sent me recipes in how to use these wines as mixers and I think that is the perfect idea for this wine. As for the flavors the pomegranate sneaks through the tart flavor just enough where you are able to identify what fruit the wine was made from. There was zero sweetness to this wine, in my opinion.
- Pineapple + Mango Sangria- On the nose you easily get pineapple and once you sip you get the mango. This wine was definitely the sweetest of the three. My sister, who loves sweet wines, chose this as her favorite. Again, I think this would be perfect as a cocktail mixer! Or perhaps add some fresh fruit to it and make your own sangria. A very fun twist on wine with this one!
- Pumpkin Spice- I waited WEEKS to try this wine. I am a HUUUUGEEE lover of all things wine so when pumpkin and wine come together I am in heaven. On the nose you get lots of cinnamon, nutmeg, and even ginger. It smelled just like a yummy pumpkin candle. Once sipped you are hit with full force pumpkin…it certainly does not lack flavors. This one was pretty sweet, too, though not as sweet as the Pineapple + Mango Sangria. I would highly recommend this wine to those that love pumpkin and love a sweet wine or cocktail.
Let me know if any of you try The California Fruit Wine Company monthly shipments. I would love to hear your thoughts.
