I stumbled upon Saddleback Cellars, located in the heart of Napa Valley, CA, when looking for kid-friendly wineries back in November and came back this time due to their fantastic wines and laidback setting! Here you literally taste amongst the vines…something not offered at many Napa wineries. As we sat on picnic tables, next to the vineyards, we were given a private hostess who talked us through their tasting menu. This go around we were treated to some Italian style wines rather than the typical Bordeaux styles found in Napa. When planning a Napa trip I always look for more laid back settings towards the end of the day since we will have been drinking all day and will likely be a bit rowdy (hahahah!) and Saddleback Cellars could not have been more perfect!

I would highly recommend this winery for any of you looking for a laid back place to taste in Napa Valley. Not only are many of their wines award- winning, the owner, Nils, is considered “the King of Cabs” as he was the first American to score 100 points from acclaimed Robert Parker (this is reason enough to visit this place for me!). Another great reason to visit is that in Napa you will taste A LOT of Bordeaux style wines so if your palate is itching for something new to try, Saddleback Cellars does it all! As I mentioned above, the Chardonnay is one of my favorites from this winery, but if given the chance be sure to try their Old Vine Zinfandel which sells out very quickly. For only $42 (that is fairly cheap in the valley), it is very silky with flavors of raspberries and black pepper.
