Regusci Winery has always been a family favorite and this time around it did not disappoint! It’s not every winery in Napa where you can sit on an outdoor patio, located on a slight incline, and look out over the top of the vineyards. If their views aren’t enough to entice you into visiting, their wines will solidify it for you! If you need anymore convincing, this one should do it…all their wines are ESTATE GROWN!
2015 Rose- very easy to drink, beautiful in color, with hints of strawberry, melon, and rose petals. I could easily pick up the rose petals and, oddly enough, I got hints of bubblegum. For $28.00 this one is a no brainer!
2013 Chardonnay- On the noise you get cinnamon and oak, but on the tongue you get vanilla and caramel. This is a very smooth drink with balanced acidity. $36.00
2012 Merlot- At the direction of our wine pourer, we took a sip immediately upon being poured and then waited 5 minutes before trying it again in order to allow the wine to open up. Holy cow! A HUGE difference. First sip, we got overwhelming cherry, however, after letting it sit for a few minutes the taste totally changed for us into flavors of chocolate, coffee, and herbs. This is one I came home with! On sale for $45.00 right now
2013 Matrona Red Wine- This is a new release for them, one I had never tried before. A perfect mixture of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the color is perhaps the darkest red I have ever seen, allowing for flavors of blackberry, oak, and smoke. This one was delicious the day we tasted but I plan to lay this one down for a few years. $80.00
2013 Elders Cabernet Sauvignon- Named for the fact that the Regusci family is the oldest farming family in the Stags Leap District, this wine tastes of bold fruits, mocha, and vanilla. Every time I visit this winery I leave with at least one of these bad boys as my family LOVES it for holiday meals. $80.00
Finally, we did not get to taste a Zinfandel as they are almost always sold out, but if you get the chance to try or buy any Zinfandel vintage from this winery, please do!! They, easily, make one of my favorite Zinfandel’s- I cannot pinpoint what it is, but just trust me…phenomenal every time!
